Introduction

On September 23, 2023, the Rotaract Club of Lalitpur Midtown collaborated with the Rotaract Club of Mahaboudha to organize the health camp on the special festive day known as “Matya”. Matya is a unique Buddhist festival celebrated in Patan, a day after Gai Jatra. The festival is known for taking out processions in many Buddhist temples and stupas in Patan. This day-long parade around the historical city starts at dawn, on the third day of the dark fortnight of Shrawan. In a day-long parade, we helped many people by giving nominal first aid, massage as well and drinking facilities.

Session Facilitator:

The session was facilitated by the president of the Rotaract Club of Mahaboudha is “”. There were various medical staff and medical students inc. our club member Shrija Khadka who helped various injured and worn-out people. The short time of kindness we gave to those people was very enlightening and peaceful. This event not only helped people but also filled the desire of club members to do seva.

Participants

The session gathered significant interest, with a total of 16 participants in attendance. Demonstrating the broader community's commitment to inclusivity and communication accessibility. Additionally, there were 5 members from our club, 10 members from the Rotaract Club of Mahaboudha, and members of another club as well which gave us the chance for fellowship and friendship.

Session Highlights

The Matya health camp was meticulously structured to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of seva and dharma through practical kindness and fellowship. The session covered a range of essential insights, including:

1. Purposeful help: The session helped many people walk a day-long parade with various minor first-aid services, resting, massage, and drinking facilities. The volunteers of this session learned the importance of help in difficult times.

2. Opportunities of fellowship: The heart of the session lay in interactive learning, where participants were engaged in practical helping activities and interaction. There was a sense of deep kindness, love, and fellowship among each other which provided the avenue for open friendship.

3. After event Session: The session concluded with a typical Newari bhoj where we enjoyed the Jatra session with each other. The bhoj was to enjoy the session which concluded successfully. We also eat momos together as an after-event session.

4. Appreciation Session: the representatives of each club gave us heart touching speech of appreciation and thanksgiving which encouraged us to do more and give more to the community in which we live.

Long-term Significance

The knowledge and skills acquired during this session are not confined to the present moment; rather, they hold enduring value. Helping people in need is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and our dedication to fostering meaningful connections with the community. As we continue to engage with diverse communities in the future, the skills gained from this session will prove invaluable in promoting accessibility and understanding.

Token of Appreciation

To express our gratitude and appreciation, Mr. Dishap Shrestha acts. Vice president, of the Rotaract Club of Lalitpur Midtown, presented a token of love and appreciation to all the volunteers and coordinators for their exceptional contribution to the session.

Conclusion

In conclusion, with the intention of “ sewa nai dharma ho” the event was a huge success in winning the people's hearts and getting a blessing from devotees. We volunteers also gained a lot of insights from this event and enjoyed a lot helping the people in need.
